A Name With History

A Name With History

We get asked about our name all the time. “Bangkok 54” has been passed down through three different owners, and it originally belonged to an Oriental grocery store in Alexandria. We kept it because the name already meant something to the Thai community—and to us, that history matters. In Thai culture, the number 9—pronounced “Gauo”—means progress. It’s lucky. But two digits are luckier than one. So “5” and “4” together still give us that step-forward energy.

Cooking Like Mom Taught Us

Everything we serve is made the way our mom makes it at home—no shortcuts. She’s our curry master, and trust us, she doesn’t compromise. If a dish is meant to be spicy, we leave it that way. If it’s not, we don’t sneak in heat just to please the crowd.
